- When polyester was first introduced around the late 1950’s (in mostly the form of clothing), it was criticized harshly mainly by the media, because knowing it was a synthetic fiber, it was judged as a “cheap” and “uncomfortable”.
- It later on regained popularity during the 1970’s for its wide range of uses, and eventually became a household name.

- Polyester is not only non absorbent, but it can be used to create fiberfill insulation, making it a preferred choice for recreational gear and wear such as:
- climbing suits
- parkas
- sleeping bags
- tents
- fishing nets
- Fiberfill insulation is a synthetic lightweight fiber used as insulation for things such as clothing.
